This decline was overcome during the early 80’s. The arrival of a new president, Cecilio Gerrikabeitia, and a new chorus master, Gorka Sierra, meant a great stimulus for this society which then languished lost in reveries.
In this new period the Choir has replenished its credit and recovered its place in the panorama of international music. Since the society’s centenary was held in 1986 with a successful tour around Puerto Rico, the ancient achievements in the company of the most prestigious conductors and orchestras have followed one another. This phase of consolidation in the most reputed stages and auditoriums has also its continuity in diverse recordings both for television and the record industry.
On 14 March 2007, Iñaki Moreno Navarro was appointed artistic director of the Choir of Bilbao. Previously, he had held the posts of Assistant Conductor of the Choir and Conductor of the Euskeria Choir of the Choir of Bilbao. This marks the beginning of a new cycle in the age-old institution, which seeks to maintain and increase the success it has achieved in recent decades under the baton of Gorka Sierra.
